# Maths – finding the whole group

Here is a reminder of how to find a whole group  when you are given a unit fraction to help you.  In the video below the teacher does not use the bar model (he uses circles) but this is still the same method just another representation.

Now can you answer this problem?  Remember the steps shown in the videos and in class.

Mrs V has given an equal amount of  dojos to 3SV throughout the week.  She gave 6 dojos on Monday which is  1/5 of the total/ the whole number of dojos given.

How many dojos did she give altogether ( the WHOLE number of dojos.)

Monday :  1/5 ## 4 thoughts on “Maths – finding the whole group”

MONDAY =1/5=6 DOJOS

First you look at the amount of equal parts in the whole which you
find in the denominator that is,5.

Now you look at the amount of dojos to put in each equal
part (for each day) that is 6 .

Next , you choose the amount of parts the numerator tells you to choose.

After that , you write your multiples. 5 days x 6 dojos for each day = 30 dojos for whole.
